The 2022 floods caused unprecedented destruction across Pakistan, with Balochistan among the hardest-hit regions. Over 500,000 livestock were lost, 587 health facilities were damaged, and food insecurity soared as farmlands and supply chains collapsed. The disaster pushed millions further into poverty, exposing deep vulnerabilities in infrastructure, livelihoods, and essential services.
Recognizing the urgent need for recovery and long-term resilience, the Government of Pakistan, with World Bank support, launched the Integrated Flood Resilience and Adaptation Project (IFRAP). This $400 million initiative focuses on rebuilding critical infrastructure, restoring livelihoods, and enhancing adaptive capacity to future climate shocks.
IFRAP is designed to drive large-scale recovery and resilience efforts across Balochistan, with a focus on sustainable development and long-term impact across the 32 impacted districts of Balochistan.
IFRAP operates through a structured and integrated implementation model, bringing together five distinct components, each designed to address critical aspects of flood recovery and resilience. To ensure effective execution, each component is led by a specialized implementation unit with the expertise and resources needed to drive impact.
