IFRAP: A Sustainable Future for Balochistan

The Integrated Flood Resilience and Adaptation Project (IFRAP) is a landmark initiative dedicated to restoring communities affected by the devastating 2022 floods in Balochistan. Learn about the project’s origins, key targets, and multi-sectoral components addressing infrastructure and disaster preparedness.

Inception: Why IFRAP Matters

Unprecedented Loss, Unmatched Need for Recovery

The 2022 floods caused unprecedented destruction across Pakistan, with Balochistan among the hardest-hit regions. Over 500,000 livestock were lost, 587 health facilities were damaged, and food insecurity soared as farmlands and supply chains collapsed. The disaster pushed millions further into poverty, exposing deep vulnerabilities in infrastructure, livelihoods, and essential services.

From Recovery to Resilience: The IFRAP Mission

Recognizing the urgent need for recovery and long-term resilience, the Government of Pakistan, with World Bank support, launched the Integrated Flood Resilience and Adaptation Project (IFRAP). This $400 million initiative focuses on rebuilding critical infrastructure, restoring livelihoods, and enhancing adaptive capacity to future climate shocks.

IFRAP is not just about reconstruction—it’s about equipping Balochistan with the strength to withstand and recover from any and all future climate crises.

Scope & Targets: Delivering Impact at Scale

IFRAP is designed to drive large-scale recovery and resilience efforts across Balochistan, with a focus on sustainable development and long-term impact across the 32 impacted districts of Balochistan.
